Course Overview

An Aerodrome Reporting Officer (ARO) must be trained to carry out the tasks prescribed by aerodrome legislation. Thereupon, the aerodrome operator’s responsible for ensuring that all personnel involved in operating, maintaining and managing their aerodrome can competently and safely discharge their duties.

This course has been designed to meet the requirements of the Part 139 (Aerodromes) Manual of Standards 2019 and the national competency standards supported by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). These national units of competency form the AVISS00053 Aerodrome Reporting Officer Skill Set and establish the skills and knowledge requirements for an Aerodrome Reporting Officer.

Delivery: This course is only available as an in-house course to train multiple personnel at your own facility (by arrangement). It is currently not offered as a public course for individual enrolment.

This course forms part of the AVI30119 Certificate III in Aviation (Aerodrome Operations).

What are the pre-requisites for completing this course?

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

It is recommended however, that participants familiarise themselves with the CASA website prior to attending, in particular https://www.casa.gov.au/operations-safety-and-travel/aerodromes/aerodrome-operations, which includes a link to the Part 139 MOS. Downloading and retaining a copy of this document will improve your learning experience and may assist with the completion of your post-course portfolio.

This course includes the provision of an Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC). To be eligible for an AROC, applicants must:

• be at least 17 years old
• hold an aviation reference number (ARN)
• complete an English Language Proficiency assessment (included as part of this course)

You need to apply for your individual ARN prior to attending this course and supply CASA with the appropriate proof of identity. Participants must hold a minimum Class C drivers’ licence to complete this course.

Who should attend?

Those who will be tasked with inspecting and reporting on a certified aerodrome* should attend this course. Additionally, those who have taken an extended leave of absence from the ARO role or who wish to refresh their skills in line with CASA recommendation should also attend. Aerodrome Managers may wish to participate to gain greater oversight of their operations and anyone can use this skillset to commence a pathway to further aerodrome qualification.

*Non-accredited training is available for those tasked with inspecting and reporting on uncertified aerodromes, where the full ARO skillset is not required.
