Southpac launches General Security Awareness Training (GSAT) for APAC

Southpac's General Security Awareness Training (GSAT) online course provides the knowledge and skills required under regulation to maintain a secure aviation environment.

Southpac has developed and released an aviation General Security Awareness Training (GSAT) online course, aimed at providing high-quality, proven training that fulfils national security requirements for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

This interactive e-learning course provides a comprehensive understanding of critical aspects of aviation security for personnel requiring unescorted access within the Security Restricted Area (SRA) and Sterile Area (SA) of an airport.

With an average completion time of under 1.5 hours, the course is ideal for all personnel that are required to hold an ASIC that permits unescorted access in gaining a clear understanding of potential threats to aviation and their role in maintaining a positive security culture.

At an international level, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) sets Standards in aviation security that all member states are obliged to implement. Standard 3.4.6 is an obligation for States to ensure that ASIC holders receive security awareness training.

At the national levels, Australian Regulation 3.16.H and New Zealand CAR Part 139.203 (d) (8) describe the requirement for all full ASIC holders to undergo initial and recurrent airside security awareness training.

Designed to meet the international standard, while providing specific regional context, Southpac’s Security Awareness Training course covers key areas, such as the insider threat and how it relates to airside workers, security obligations and procedures for workers in security restricted areas, requirements about weapons and tools of trade, procedures for identifying and reporting airside security issues and the importance of a challenge culture.

Airport operators and security providers can purchase 10 or more licences from Southpac Aerospace at a discounted rate. Enrolment is also available to individuals to enrol directly through the Southpac website and complete the course at their own pace. Individuals can take advantage of an introductory offer to complete the course for just AU$50.00.

This is the first online aviation security course to be released by Southpac Aerospace. The suite of training also includes Threat Image Recognition Training (TIRT) which is available to operators across Australia and the Asia Pacific region on a per screener licence basis.

Further aviation security courses are being released in the coming months, positioning Southpac as the region’s leading aviation security training provider.
