Southpac expands Aviation Security Training with Firearms & Explosives Awareness Course

A bustling airport with numerous people carrying bags, underscoring the importance of identifying potential threats in crowded environments.

Southpac Aerospace has launched a new online course as part of its growing Aviation Security training suite – the Recognition of Firearms & Explosives (RFX) Awareness course. This one-hour, self-paced course provides foundational knowledge to help security personnel identify items that may pose a threat to aviation or other critical national infrastructure environments.

The eLearning course offers insight into the recognition of firearms, explosive devices, incendiary devices, dangerous goods and other prohibited or threat items. Designed to support security professionals in staying alert to evolving risks, the course aims to enhance operational awareness and promote informed decision-making in security roles.

This interactive training is particularly relevant to those working in or around secure areas of airports or regulated facilities. It is recommended for aviation security staff, contracted security personnel, airline operations staff, customs and border protection officers, as well as those working in roles related to secure air cargo or inflight supplies.

Delivered fully online, the RFX Awareness course can be completed at any time and is available for individual enrolments or group access. The course is structured around a series of concise modules covering explosives, explosive effects, firearms and ammunition, and dangerous goods – offering a clear and practical overview of potential threat items and their indicators.

Equipping security screeners and analysts with the knowledge to recognise common threat features is critical to staying ahead of threats, and Southpac’s cost-effective training is designed to maintain these perishable skills.

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 32353), Southpac Aerospace ensures its course content is continually reviewed and aligned with industry requirements. All training is designed and delivered by experienced facilitators with deep knowledge across aviation, defence, and security sectors.

This release follows the successful launch of Southpac’s Aviation Security Awareness Training course and supports the broader objective of providing flexible, industry-relevant aviation security training across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.

Further aviation security modules will continue to be released as part of Southpac’s expanding training portfolio, reinforcing its role as a leading provider of accessible, standards-aligned training for the aviation sector.
