Darwin International Airport puts emergency preparedness into action

Southpac Aerospace continues to deliver critical airport and aerodrome projects across Australia, working alongside regional and major hubs to strengthen operations, safety, and training during key phases of growth.
Supporting Darwin International Airport’s Airport Emergency Plan (AEP)
Darwin International Airport recently delivered a full-scale Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) exercise to test its response capabilities in a high-pressure, real-time simulation. Southpac Aerospace was proud to support the planning, delivery, and review of the exercise as part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening safety and readiness across the aviation sector.
The scenario was designed in collaboration with airport operations and modelled on real-world incidents and current risk trends. Using ICAO’s 5×5 framework, we helped assess key hazards and mitigation strategies while working with stakeholders to clarify roles and expectations well ahead of the event.
On the day of the exercise, our team coordinated and facilitated the live scenario, observing how systems and people performed under pressure. The result was a valuable opportunity for learning, with structured debriefing and a detailed post-exercise report helping inform future improvements.
Key Insight: Emergency preparedness improves through real practice, collaboration, and continuous feedback.
