Trainer & Auditor – Pierre Blais
Pierre Blais is a recently retired Wing Commander having served 22 years in the RAAF who has recently joined the Southpac team as a Lead Auditor and Safety Management Systems Trainer.
During his final years of service at Air Command Pierre had the responsibility of introducing the RAAF’s Safety and Airworthiness Compliance Assurance Program, for which he earned the Conspicuous Service Cross. Through his efforts, and that of his team, the RAAF has established a robust audit program. Pierre’s experience at the RAAF includes flying the FA-18 as an Operational Line Pilot and providing conversion training as a Qualified Flying Instructor.
Pierre is a graduate of the Australian Command and Staff College and holds qualifications in Aerospace Management, Aviation Risk Management and Crew Resource Management. He also has qualifications in Integrated Safety Management System from the Singapore Aviation Academy. His audit experience and his knowledge of the ISO system makes him a valued member of the Southpac Audit Team. Pierre lives on the Gold Coast and is a member of the RAAF Active Reserve.
Facilitator & Human Factors Specialist – Libby Bakewell
Libby’s involvement in the aviation industry spans 30 years and includes experience ranging from small flight training organisations, RPT operations and General Aviation charter companies through to airlines such as Qantas. She has held operational roles such as Flight Instructor, Line Pilot, Cabin Manager and training leadership roles including Human Factors Facilitator and Trainer. Libby is also experienced in both aviation auditing and ISO 9001 auditing and certification.
Her commitment and passion for improving the safety culture within organisations motivated her to become degree qualified in Aviation Human Factors and she spent a number of years employed by Qantas as a Human Factors Trainer.
Recently Libby has gained Post Graduate qualifications in both Occupational Health and Safety and also Workplace Health and Safety. Now a member of the Southpac team Libby is currently focused on promoting safety within aviation maintenance companies through a Human Factors training Program which will meet CASA Human Factors Training compliance standards.
Facilitator & Aviation SMS Specialist – Matt McKay
Matt is a trainer with Southpac specialising in Safety Management Systems. His background is 15 years as a pilot and flying instructor with the Royal Australian Air Force. He then spent 8 years as a contractor in the Middle East training pilots and weapons system operators for the Royal Saudi Air Force. On return to Australia he was the manager of all CASA Aviation Safety Advisors. His current role is working for a US company providing Human Factors and SMS coaching on off-shore oil and gas rigs throughout Australasia.
Trainer & Auditor – Captain Trevor Bock
Trevor has over 25 year’s experience in commercial aviation and specialises in all aspects of aviation quality and safety management. His career has taken him through many roles within the industry including; Pilot, Instructor, Quality & Safety Lead Auditor, Fleet Manager, Safety Manager, Check & Training Captain, Flight Operations Manager and IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) Lead Auditor.
Trevor has many years experience in training and teaching ranging from secondary school to university and adult vocational training. His background is a benefit to the aviation industry as he is able to draw on his extensive knowledge of training, IT, business management, HR, quality management, safety management and flight operations.
During his flying career he has flown a number of aircraft types including Beech Kingairs, Embraer E110 Bandierantes, Embraer EMB120 Brasilia’s and DeHavilland Twin Otters. Trevor has check & training experience and has performed the role of Fleet Administration Manager at Qantas Airways. Over the past 8 year’s Trevor has been auditing with the IATA Operational Safety Audit Program as well as working as an auditor, consultant, trainer and ISO 9001 Lead Auditor for Southpac Aerospace.
Lead Auditor – Trina Wyllie
Trina has over 20 years of experience in quality assurance, maintenance documentation, administration, and technical documentation in defence and aviation environments. She is passionate about Quality Assurance and Safety Management Systems and enjoys assisting businesses to improve their processes in order to get the best from their business. Trina holds a Diploma in Quality Auditing and is a qualified Lead Auditor.
Lead Auditor – Toby Butler
Toby has been involved in the aviation industry for over 20 years initially in the British Army as a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer but in more recent times as a Quality and Safety Manager including with operators in New Guinea and Australia. As an engineer Toby specialised in rotary wing working with aircraft across the British Army fleet including Westland Lynx and Gazelles. After some years with the British Army Toby transferred to the Australian Army and worked on the S70 Blackhawks as a maintenance supervisor. A variety of contract positions since then has seen work experience across organisations as diverse as the Empire Test Pilots School, Flybe, the Royal Navy and Hevilift in Papua New Guinea. Toby now works with Southpac in the capacity of Lead Auditor and has experience as a Lead Auditor, Safety Manager and Safety Investigator.
Trainer – Ronald Bartsch
Ron has extensive experience in the aviation industry having worked as Head of Safety and Regulatory Compliance with Qantas Airways, in Senior Management at CASA and is currently the Managing Director of AvLaw Pty Ltd an International Aviation Consultancy firm. For the past 16 years he has been a Senior Visiting Fellow with the School of Aviation at the University of New South Wales and author and coordinator of several postgraduate programs in aviation safety and accident prevention, aviation law and business law and technology. Ron is a world recognised specialist in aviation law and author of International Aviation Law: A Practical Guide (2012). Ron currently delivers the Southpac Aviation Law courses that have been developed in co-operation with AvLaw Pty Ltd.
Trainer & Auditor – Richard Bucknell
Richard has almost 5 decades of aviation experience as well as a life-long passion for all things aviation. As Trainer and Lead Auditor for Southpac Aerospace, Richard infuses a passion in his audience, clients and staff that shows his industry experience, subject knowledge and love for the aviation industry.
As a trainer, Richard has the unique ability to relate to people from all walks of life and to deliver his material in such a way that can make anyone enthusiastic, interested and informed.
Richard is known as a leader in the delivery of quality and safety management systems and training and has directly been involved in training and auditing almost every airline in Australia as well as many overseas airlines and countless aviation operators and government departments both in Australia and overseas.
Trainer – Rebecca Gil
Bec has previous on-board management experience in the aviation industry and spent 6 years working for an award winning International Airline based in Dubai. Bec furthered her studies at Griffith University completing her Masters in Aviation Management in 2010 writing her thesis on the ‘Causes, Identification and Reduction of Cabin Crew Sickness’. Previous to this she was a senior travel consultant and also an English teacher in Japan. Bec is now facilitating courses run by Southpac.
